Out of the types of forums hosted here... there are 300+ more gaming forums than any other. Now, I realize that not every gaming forum will have a use for a dice mod, but those that are like mine, with a strong core group of role-players, a dice mod is essential for online gaming. Without it, we will have to go somewhere else to roll our dice... and if my players are going somewhere else already, there is less of a chance that they will stay with my forum as it is. I want my players and members to stick with my forum.

That is why I am requesting, most humbly, that a dice mod be added to the boards. This is a feature that could not only make my board, but many other gaming boards. As well as once gamers know that a reliable forum host like prophpbb has a dice mod for all their gaming needs, more will choose to make a forum here instead of relying on other sites for barely adequete dice rolls.

This is the mod, i have made my case for it, and I truly hope that it could be added to the boards.

It looks like it's in beta at the moment. If it's stable and doesn't involve too much in the way of SQL accesses then I don't see why it shouldn't be considered.

It would be soooo great if it could be added. It is something that I really need and will have a hard time keeping members until it's a go.

I also have another mod that I helped with as far as dice go, but it's not been uploaded to phpbb, but I figured a phpbb mod would be better accepted.

One thing to keep in mind for the time being. Whomever the DM is, should be able to roll the dice privately for all the characters (or base the game off an honor system). It's usually apparent if someone's cheating. However if the DM is the one doing all the rolls, it doesnt matter if he/she doesnt record the rolls as they actually were : He/She's the DM - they are the virtual Godly-figured. heh. And yes, the mod would probably help, but we'll see.

actually, thats one of the reasons why people want my forums, because I thought I had a working dice bbcode heh. Players like to be able to roll their own stuff, and it gets tiring for GM's to have to cross-reference everyone's char sheet, make sure the char sheet is all updated, and whatnot.

I completely understand. Ever thought about hosting a live game over X-Fire, MSN/YIM Chat? Might be interesting? As for the BBCode - I'll see if I can find something useful.

Yea, we host Play by Chats over OpenRPG, and its got its own dice roller and whatnot.

Why I am needing a dice roller for the forums is because of Play by Posts, in forum RP. I have 1 game thats going to make due until I get a dice bbcode, and I have 7 other GM's wanting to put their games on my forums, but not until a in forum dice roller works. (I have in forum chat and white boards so we *could* play right from the forum, even live games, except for one thing... dice).

If you know of some way to turn a mod into a bbcode, I can give you the homemade mod I have for a simple dice roller...

Actually, here it is.

Any information/update on this? Because I am *really* needing a dice mod or dice roller... there is another board, of which there are 5 PbP games with around 3k posts and 30+ members that are wanting to just transfer everything to my boards (which i am ecstatic about) but they wont do the move unless I have a dice roller that can be used in the posts themselves, or basically, forum based.

I would guess that the dice mod is not a priority at the moment. MdValdosta has other priorities for the service and once he has a look at this thread, he will review whether it would be reasonable to implement for this service.

I believe Nexus said he would take a look at it so you could wait and see whether he has managed to whip something up, or you could try visiting http://phpbb3bbcodes.com and asking for help there as they specialise in creating BB Codes.

Your patience is appreciated.

I had a brief look at this too, using Javascript on a web page, but I can't see any way around stopping the code re-executing (and changing the dice roll) every time the page is refreshed.

I know it's not priority for MD, but yea, trying to be as patient as I can. I'll check out that link you gave.

Yeah, I couldnt figure anything out, unless there was a way to have the code deal with another site, like you type in the roll, the code makes the other site do the actually rolling and then copies the end result back to the forum post. But I cant think of a way to do it. Would it be able to be done in html? Or in another code that can be turned into bbcode?
