I am using prosilver as the default theme. I can't post photographs from ImageShack or PhotoBucket. In the ACP there is no place to set attachments or image size OR a directory location for attachments. Under the "Posting" tab in the ACP an entire section is missing. It only has bbcodes. The following is missing from that page: # Attachments # Attachment settings # Manage extensions # Manage extension groups # Orphaned attachments
So therefore I can't post pictures. Also:When I changed to fisubice2 theme all existing forums disappeared so I changed back to pro silver. Any Ideas? http://roselle.prophpbb.com/

Make sure you are using the [img] tags. On the photo, its the last option.
Example would be [img](INSERT%20IMAGE%20LINK%20HERE[/img]
You can't add attachments to your forums, as that has been disabled by the admin here.

Thanks for the quick reply.
When you removed the attachment page in the ACP you also removed the ability to create thumbnails or not create thumbnails and limit the size of pictures. In other words this:
Image category settings [Assigned extension group: Images]
Display images inline: If set to No image attachments will show as a link.
Create thumbnail: Create a thumbnail in all possible situations. Maximum thumbnail width in pixel: A generated thumbnail will not exceed the width set here. Minimum thumbnail file size: Do not create a thumbnail for images smaller than this. Maximum image dimensions: Maximum size of image attachments. Set both values to 0px by 0px to disable dimension checking. Image link dimensions: Display image attachment as an inline text link if image is larger than this. To disable this behavior, set the values to 0px by 0px. So how do I limit the size of posted pictures?
The picture posting problem seems to have cleared up. I posted pictures today with the same code that I used that didn't work - and it worked today.
Go figure.
I changed to the theme fisubice2 again to see if it will work and I'll let you know if it does.
Thanks again.

You can't limit the size of hotlinked images using bbcode. I'd suggest making the image the size you want prior to uploading to your image hosting site.

The black dialog as noted above is copied and pasted from the bottom half of the phpbb3 Olympus "Attachment" page where you, according to Phpbb Group, can disallow the posting of photo's over the size that the forum administrator sets on this part of the "Attachment" page in the ACP. I know how to resize pictures but most users do not. Therefore some user has the ability to post a HUGE picture that would stretch the forum post and the rest of the forum way past the viewable area of the comp. monitor. I've seen this done on other BB's and forums. I would like to have the ability to prevent this by limiting the size of pictures. This is standard with phpbb3 Olympus. Update on the style change issue:
I still can't change from prosilver to fisubice2.I've tried 6 times and it won't change. I've cleared cache and deleted the fisubice2 and reinstalled it as the default style and I'm still stuck on prosilver. Anything else I can try? Thanks

Regarding the style issue, have you installed the fisubice2?
If not, install it under styles, then apply it in YOUR UCP.

The only option you have at the moment is to edit the user's post and delete the offending picture, or rather the link to it, and then ask them to resize it. If they can't do it for themselves then offer to do it for them. You could download the image they posted, resize it, then email it to them to re-upload to whatever host they're using. It sounds a lot more fiddly than it really is and I've had to do that a few times on my bike forum - but then I do have access to the group's web server and don't have to send the image back to them!

So much for pictures.
As to the inability to change styles by selecting a style and making it the default style:
I cannot change the default style simply by opening "details" of the style and selecting the "Make default style" radio button. All this does is change the administrator's (my) style.
It does NOT change the default style of the forum.
To change the default style of the forum I have to delete the present default style and when prompted, choose the desired style to replace it. That style then becomes the default style of the forum.
This is weird. That's not the way that it's supposed to work.
What version of phpbb3 is this?
In addition to removing the attachment and photo controls, what other changes have been made to the original phpbb3?

mdvaldosta wrote: You can't limit the size of hotlinked images using bbcode. I'd suggest making the image the size you want prior to uploading to your image hosting site. Actually, although you can't technically, you CAN get around it with this bbcode that I have. Code: bbcode usage
[rimg]{URL}[/rimg]
Code: html replacement
<a href="{URL}"><img style="max-width:700px; max-height; 700px;" src="{URL}" alt="Image" /></a>
So to make thumbnails, just set the max width and height to whatever size you want. Like 150x150. Code: help line
[rimg]Link to image[/rimg] size is set to a max of 700x700, if the picture is normally larger, click to see in full size
If you check out my forums, you can see this code at work in neardly every picture that is posted.

In addition to removing the attachment and photo controls, what other changes have been made to the original phpbb3? as for your second question here... to make a style the default for the entire board no matter what, get into the ACP, General tab, then down to Board Settings. Pick the style you want, and click yes to override.

verdilak,
Fantastic!! Thank you very much!
Without the ability to limit picture size I had reservations about continuing to move my forum to ProphpBB. Now I'll continue building a new one here.
As for default style changes; I've always done it on the style page so I didn't think to do it on the board settings page.
Great advice!
I have a video bbcode that supposedly can be used for around 20 video sites. I have only used it for YouTube so I don't know if it works for the others.
Would you like me to post it?

BBCode will work for embedding any video. Pretty much - the code varies upon the video's host, filetype, etc. If you'd like to post some BBCode, definitely feel free to do so as I'm sure someone will be able to use it: however, please post it in a new thread in the Tutorials forum. I'm glad this issue has been resolved.
