WHat are you talking about? It's a fold in time and space created by a plasmic charge of photons and electrons created to warp an individual from their computer into the world of your portal page. Editing this page can cause serious risk. Must keep arms and legs within the bounds of your 17" or larger computer screen to avoid serious injury. :D

A rift in the space-time continuum? I've come across a couple of web sites like that!

When will this be added, exactly?
I mean, I really would love this. :D

Md, I have to be honest with you.
I think this is one of the most important things you could add to this. So many other hosting sites already have this, it needs to happen. Plus, when my members go my page, I want them to go to another page first before the forums. :D

All configuration is manual via bb3portal/config.php file.

This won't work well for you guys, unless you want everyone to have the exact same portal. We are choosy when it comes to modifications to the already heavily modified phpBB code... upgrades are enough work as-is, and reverting to a different (portal) setup takes even more work.

We've discussed this in the past, there will most certainly be portal options available in the future - however we're waiting on one that meets the following guidelines:

  • Configurable from the ACP
  • Doesn't generate excessive sql queries
  • Stable, not in Alpha or Beta stage
  • Has a large userbase (ensures updates to the code and longevity)

There are a handful of portal systems I am watching closely and feel would, hopefully soon, meet those guidelines. I'd rather ProphpBB be known for stabilty and reliability rather than loaded with stuff like Arcades and Portals that are vulnerable to security exploits or run slowly - or worse.

This portal MOD is very nice, have added to my Promotion Forum. Hopefully you guys come up with some other solution for a portal as this is a VERY popular feature to have.

Hmmm, I downloaded ( http://phpbb3portal.com/ ) and installed the latest version of this MOD about a day ago and it has changed TONS, the majority of the congifuration is now done through the ACP, and you can easily re-arange boxes with a simple move of an iclude statement as well in the portal_main.html file.

The welcome box is editable via ACP, and the majority of the other boxes can be disabled / enabled via ACP as well.

Mr. Bond, your signature link (Promote Your Forum @ Promotions Inc. For FREE) directs to a broken page! At least the link to your forum portal page works. Very nice it is too.

The link in my sig is fixed now, I think it was because I was messing with my .htaccess (to disable the hotlinking of images) and I disabled the redirect to the portal :s_wink ) and heres a screen by the way of what the ACP control for this portal looks like...

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/6173 ... talzu6.jpg

It is a very nice portal, lots of neat blocks and features, although I did have to do quite a bit of editing to the center announcement block to get it to display correctly like the rest of the blocks. It was also a very easy install, only took about 10 or so minutes I believe...

The ACP looks nice but rather large for just the portal (The Portal Tab). Very customizable then?

From what I've seen on Mr Bond's site, it really looks great, awsome and useful! It'd be great if we had something like that, since our forum is a fansubbing site, and we can't just have a forum in our main page. I hope you do add this mod, but it's always your choice.
