Resize the banner, what file type is, JPEG, or GIF or what, if its not a JPEG I recommend you save it as a JPEG because with JPEG the file sizes are smaller.

I disagree with naughtymonkey. As we're talking about FILE size as opposed to the size of the graphic a .gif file (for the same graphic) tends to be smaller because they have fewer colours, even though .jpg is a compressed format. Web sites don't need graphics with a zillion colours and headings and banners etc. can easily get away with only 255 or even 16. On screen you'd hardly notice the difference, but the server will love you!

Gif sizes are usually smaller, although the quality can suffer greatly unless the image was originally made in .gif format. Converting a .jpg or .png for example to a .gif likely won't look good, but if you can make it in .gif it'll have a small filesize and look good. I personally prefer .png files myself.

Yep, I saved it as png. I think it looks better vs gif or jpeg. But I guess I'll have to save it as gif.
Thanks for the help everyone :)

If it was a jpg or png it'll look horrible as a 256 color gif. I'd suggest instead you optimize the filesize of your png. You can do this easily with a photo editing program, if you don't have photoshop you can use paint.net for free. Get it here.

In PSP (my version is 7.04 so may be a little dated) save your image using "Save As..." and in the save dialogue is a file size optimiser option. Using a slider you can reduce the file size and preview the output before saving it. There is also a wizard to help you with this. Different file formats may have different options, I only looked at this for .jpg images.
Hint: From personal experience, always work on a copy of the original image. That way, if you don't like the result, you can at least go back and start again.

If you want, upload the banner to imageshack.us or photobucket.com and give us the link. I can open the file in Photoshop and save as a smaller image-file. Maybe the MODE just needs to be changed? It's easier to tell once I get the image opened in PS.

-Rich Thanks! but a new problem has arisen lol, i decided to change my template to "WhitEfilmy" and instead it just keeps showing their default logo instead of mine. Are logos not allowed on this template?

There are a few templates that do not support logo changing. We have planned to fix them, but they have been getting put off.
