We're doing something pretty bold, I'm going to PUBLICLY display our uptime statistics for all to see. Why is this bold? We'll every website experiences periods of downtime - whether it's for maintenance, upgrades, hardware failure, or goofing up code on occassion (guilty!). So to publicly display this takes quite a bit of confidence in your service. I want you guys to have a true picture of what kind of hosting we offer. It is, afterall, your forum. I use a paid service to ping key websites on servers we operate, and in ProphpBB's case I'm pinging the support forum. Why the support forum? Well pinging our homepage (which is what most hosts would do) won't tell me (or you) if any hosted forums are down. The support forum runs off the same set of files as everything else and, while some might think it'd be more stable to use a remotely hosted support forum in case something goes wrong, we don't think that's necessary. In fact, I use the support forum in this manner because it also acts as a great demo board and a true example of what to expect with your own forum. At any rate, I just set it up for ProphpBB. Want to see the real uptime? Here you go. PS - if anything does happen I'll get a text message on my cell phone so that, whether I'm in front of a computer or not, I'll know about it so that it can be fixed. We take your forum seriously.

Nice one MD. Only 10 minutes down-time so far. That must have been when you stopped for a coffee break last week.

You should have a record somewhere explaining the down-times for the other members. I mean, this forum has only been open for around a month and it has 10 minutes down time slapped on there. People may wonder why that is so.

Nah, downtime is to be expected. 10 minutes of downtime probably wouldn't be noticed by 1% of the users of the service. Those things happen. 10 minutes of downtime every day would be better than most providers, though that's the first downtime ProphpBB has had in the 3 weeks it's been up. PS - it was only down for about 6 minutes but the ping service is set to 5 minute intervals. (Note to self: must upgrade processor, or feed the hamster. ) Dual CPU Quad Core Intel Clovertown with 4 gigs ram on RAID 10 hotswappable drives... could power the FBI's website : ) But I have about 40 other websites on this server including a Blog Hosting site that has a 1.2gig database that's holding up the mysql reboots... it has to index 100,000 files upon reboot... ProphpBB will be migrated off onto it's own server as it grows. In the process now of splitting the blog hosting site's database up into 258 db's so that indexing problem will go away and give room to grow. Big. Very. Big.
